MOVIE-V for Vendetta

There is nothing that makes me more upset than bad film making. Somehow in our topsy-turvy world, poor stories get turned into poor scripts read by poor actors directed poorly and filmed poorly. Which is why it is so refreshing to see a truly fantastic film once in a while. V for Vendetta staring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman was such a film. The casting was perfect, the acting so good that I didn't even notice the script and instead could be involved in the actual story.
The story is perfect. It is political without any semblance of an agenda. It is powerful but not overbearing. It is tragic but not depressing. The characters reach a level of understanding at which point there can only be love between them, yet it is not a "romance" film; or, rather, it is not in the same genre as those silly "lets-have-sex-and-then-we'll-fight-but-end-up-loving-each- other-in-two-days" films. It is true love, deep love. The kind of love that helps Evey forgive V because she realizes that she now understands him because of what he did to her. The kind of love that helps V let Evey make her own choice about what she has to do, even though it means that she has the power to stop the plan to which he has devoted his whole life.
This is a beautiful film in ever way. 5 stars.
