ART: John William Waterhouse

John William Waterhouse's paintings are reminiscent of a lifestyle remembered only in fairy tales and poems whose meaning has long been forgotten. They reflect light and beauty and love and tragedy: in a word, life. Life as we would all have it. Life as it was, or perhaps life as it should be. He paints classical scenes, using well-proved methods and a gentle pallet. Whenever I see his work, I always want to jump right into them and meet Ophelia, or the Lady of Shallot, or Le Belle Dame. Truly beautiful.
